Saif Bin Zayed Attends MOU Signing Between Abu Dhabi Civil Defense, Mubadala And Aldar

Lt. General HH Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior attended the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the General Directorate of Civil Defence in Abu Dhabi, Mubadala Development Company “Mubadala”, and Aldar, regarding the operational manual for fire safety in malls and retail facilities. The signing ceremony took place at the Abu Dhabi Police GHQ’s building in the presence of Khaldoon Khalifa Al Mubarak, Mubadala's Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer; Lt. General Saif Abdullah Al Sha’far, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior; and Abubaker Seddiq Al Khoori, Chairman of Aldar Properties.
 
The agreement was signed by Colonel Juma Salem Al Dahmani, Acting Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense; Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Mubadala's Deputy Group CEO and Chief Executive Officer of Emerging Sectors; and Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chief Executive Officer of Aldar Properties.

Also in attendance were Major General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary General of the Office of HH Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior; Brigadier Ali Khalfan Al Dhaheri, Director General of the Headquarters Affairs at Abu Dhabi Police;  Brigadier Salem Al Shamesi, Deputy Director General of Finance and Services; Colonel Saud Al Saadi, Director of the Secretariat of the Office of HH the Minister; and Colonel Jassim Al Tunaiji, Director of the Medical Services Department at Abu Dhabi Police.

Colonel Juma Salem Al Dahmani, Acting Director of Abu Dhabi Civil Defense said  that both parties agreed on  developing the proper mechanism to ensure the full implementation of the manual guidelines and provide the highest level of public safety in malls, retail complexes and buildings in general. “The first phase of implementation will cover the various shopping malls. Moreover, work is underway to enhance partnership between all entities concerned with buildings and their owners in support of the implementation process,” noted Colonel Al Dahmani.

The agreement will include setting a general framework for fire safety procedures in buildings and facilities since the beginning of the construction project’s life cycle and post-construction operations, in order to maintain the safety of individuals and property, and to identify responsibilities and obligations of all parties involved in the building operation.

For his part, Waleed Al Mokarrab Al Muhairi, Mubadala's Deputy Group CEO and Chief Executive Officer of Emerging Sectors said, “We, at Mubadala, are delighted to sign this agreement with the General Directorate of Civil Defense in Abu Dhabi. Under the MoU, we will be able to formulate and establish contingency plans for all Mubadala facilities, in direct coordination with the concerned Civil Defense authorities. This would contribute to boost our readiness to handle emergencies, and reinforce our efforts to provide the highest levels of safety and security for all.”

On the same note, Mohammed Khalifa Al Mubarak, CEO of Aldar Properties, welcomed the opportunity to work with the Ministry of Interior to ensure the safety of UAE citizens, residents and visitors alike. “This MoU will boost cooperation efforts between the public and private sectors for the service of community members in Abu Dhabi. It also reaffirms our full and continuing commitment to apply the highest standards of safety at different properties and facilities of Aldar,” he explained. In conclusion, Al Mubarak praised the efforts of the Abu Dhabi Civil Defense to provide a safe and secure environment throughout the Emirate.
